Let’s face it, the whole “quit your job, travel the world” advice gets old fast. Especially when you’re staring down student loans and the reality of, well.. renting!

Making Your 20s Matter
But that doesn’t mean your 20s has to be a monotonous slog. Here’s the truth: you can have incredible experiences and keep a roof over your head.
Escaping the 9-to-5 Grind
College graduation often leads to a new rhythm – a job, (maybe) living with roommates, and a newfound sense of routine. It’s easy to get stuck in the cycle, especially when weekends become synonymous with staying in. But here’s the good news: you don’t have to succumb to the 9-to-5 bore you swore to avoid.
Travel on a Budget: Adventure Awaits On The Next Door
Traveling without quitting a job doesn’t have to be a luxurious, Instagram-worthy escape. Explore the beauty of local adventures! Take a day trip to a nearby city you’ve never been to, or even a weekend getaway to a neighboring state. Canada and Mexico border the US, offering international experiences without breaking the bank. Do your research and plan strategically to make the most of your budget.
Road Trip Anyone? Adventure is Closer Than You Think
Remember that giant country you spent years studying in textbooks? Germany, Greece, India, Italy, etc.. But, Now it’s your chance to see it! Most jobs offer paid vacation time; use it! Skip the obligatory holiday family visit and plan an epic road trip instead. Explore hidden gems, national parks, or even quirky roadside attractions. With a little planning, you can definitely afford the adventure of a lifetime (or at least a killer road trip).
Beyond Travel: Break Free from the Routine
Travel isn’t the only way to break free from the monotony. Challenge yourself with a new hobby – learn an instrument, take up photography, or even try your hand at baking or knitting. The point is to step outside your comfort zone and inject some excitement into your life. Did you always dream of running a marathon? Train for it! Always wanted to experience the thrill of a winter swim? Go for it (safely, of course)
Your 20s: A Time for Discovery
They say “do it while you’re young” and guess what? You are young! While quitting your job and living on a beach might seem enticing, focus on the achievable adventures within your reach. Instead of blowing money at the same bar every weekend, invest in creating memories. Your 20s is a time for exploration – explore your city, explore your talents, and explore the world (a little bit at a time). You’re resourceful and capable, so take advantage of it!
This isn’t about following some UNREALISTIC travel blog or chasing wanderlust. Your 20s are about creating a life; that’s fulfilling and full of experiences, big and small. So ditch the “quit your job” articles and videos, grab your sense of adventure, and make your 20s truly remarkable!
I honestly can’t stand all of the articles I read that are like “You’re in your 20’s! Quit your job and open up an ice cream shack in the Bahamas!” or “Don’t worry about getting a job – backpack through Europe and find yourself!”
Most of the things I read are so unrealistic. They make me feel bad because I’m not a free spirit obsessed with wanderlust.

But there are some realistic things you can do and should do in your 20’s and travel is one of them! Just not to that extreme.
You’re working your first real job and living at home. You’re saving more money than you’ve ever saved and spend a majority of your time at work. You don’t live with your friends anymore and only see them on occasion. The time after graduating college is your first real and true taste of monotony.
